Another way to think about gratitude.

Recently my client and I were talking about gratitude. She said she has been feeling so angry, frustrated and overwhelmed with her job, that she has lost all sense of what's good in her life.

She said she was struggling to feel grateful, had become numb to happiness.

Ouch.

Together we looked at where the challenges were showing up, and worked out some strategies and journalling exercises to help her change her perspectives.

Then I remembered I'd read this quote somewhere from Gilbert Keith Chesterton, and I shared it with her:

"I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought: and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder"

Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.

Isn't that beautiful?

She said she now has that quote on a sticky note on her bathroom mirror.  It's a daily reminder that thankfulness and gratitude are a powerful partnership for our human spirit, and worth cultivating in the everyday.

If you're struggling to find gratitude, and happiness has become all too elusive, let's talk.
